Breakaway 2010

Breakaway Arena
This year’s game is Breakaway. The alliances, of three teams each, play on a 27 by 54-foot rectangular field and operate their robots from behind allience walls at the ends of field. There are two goals for each alliance located in the coreners of the field. In addition, there are two bumps in the field that divide it to three zones. In the center of each bump there are a tower and a tunnel below.
A match lasts 2 minutes and 15 seconds. The first 15 seconds of a round are autonomus and the last 2 minutes are user controlled. During the game, balls are kicked, herded, or thrown into the goals. One scored ball equals to one point in result. In some cases, the robots may either overcome the bumps or pass in the tunnels in order to get closer to the goals. In the last twenty seconds, the teams might gain bonus points by “hanging” their robots on the towers, or on another robot which is already hung. They get 2 and 3 points respectively for each bonus activity.
